Eruptions and things.

Consider this comparison.

Washington State, 1980: Big bad volcano eruption. 57 people killed. Lodges and stuff destroyed. The whole area around the mountain is then made into a big national park. No more lodges, controlled access only. Now today, with the mountain threatening to pop again (although not as severely), there is close to zero risk to human life and property.

Florida, every year: Big bad hurricanes. Massive destruction of life and property. What do the residents do? Rebuild of course. So that in a few years, it can all be threatened and destroyed again by the next big hurricane.

Here in Washington, we know how to take nature's subtle hints.
